What happens when you explore your core values? Read on to hear from one of my clients on the profound effect knowing her core values and using them as a lens when making big decisions and beautiful art.

"About 3 years ago I found myself feeling very disconnected from myself. I literally would wake up and wonder who I was. I'd look in the mirror and not know the person looking back at all. That's when I reached out to you.
I knew something didn't feel right and I knew something needed to change.
In my work with you initially, you had asked me what my values were, and I was terrified because I had never thought about that before. Through our first meetings together we did a a few exercises that helped me identify what my core values are. Love, Joy and Freedom.

After that work, all of the scatterings of who I thought I was came together into alignment, and it was this absolute clarity that I hadn't had in the past.
I started to look at my life and decisions through the lens of my values. At that time, I was looking at where I wanted to live, and how I wanted to feel in that new place. The lens of these core values supported me to find my dream property on Vancouver Island where I have an abundance of love and joy. The freedom of owning my own land out here has been life changing. I used to live in a very condensed area, and now I have more space that I know what to do with, and I can't even tell you the the feeling when I wake up in the morning on this beautiful piece of land that is mine.

Using my values as my lens has continued on in my life, through my photography. Last year I decided to do a photo project about values because I just love this kind of endless exploration of who I am and what those values mean to me, and how they can show up in my life.
I travel a lot and I love photography. I started looking at these places wondering how could I incorporate the landscapes or the locations that I was in and tell a story about what my values are.
It's been a really, really beautiful journey, because I go into these wonderful landscapes like Morocco and Bolivia and I create images that showcase the value, or make me feel a value.

I'm still working on my photography + values project, I'm in the middle of it. I have 3 of my core values that I still haven't taken photos of. I know that I want to make images that tell that story, and I need to think about what those look like.
I love this as a creative project that has deep meaning to me."
After this interview, Sherri and I talked about our shared aspiring value of 'wild-hearted' - she told me what she was thinking to capture that value in an image and I am SO excited to see that one if she does capture it - think full moon, dark night, a river running through and a woman standing in the river. I had shivers as she talked about it.
Sherri and I also have talked about collaborating on a values + photography weekend retreat where we'll be exploring participant's core values and going out on the land to engage in photography and art making. COOL. I'll tell you more when we decide where and when.
Enjoy Sherri's beautiful photography.
